Layering Window Treatments

When considering what to put on your windows, think about the treatment you install on the inside portion of your window as well as the outer edges. One of my favorite looks is using a woven wood as well as drapes to the floor. Other options are 2" wood blinds, shudders, roman shades, duets and silhouettes for the inner portion and stationary panels that just frame the window and soften the edges of the sides of the window. Hildreths has a great selection of fabrics for drapes and a full line of all the Hunter Douglas horizontal products. They also have experienced Interior Decorators available to assist you with your next project. So stop in any time and someone will be happy to help you!

tackling an early winter project by putting up wallpaper

Why not be surrounded by lush greenery with flowers and leaves year round? After all the holiday company departs consider tackling an early winter project by putting up wallpaper that will cheer up the worst of the winter blues. Hildreth’s wallpaper library has the largest and best selection of wallpaper on the east end, featuring collections from Thibaut, Stroheim, Scalamandre, Ralph Lauren, Brunschwig & Fils, Schumacher and more. And for the environmentally concerned, Hildreth’s has exclusively partnered with Duro Brand Wallpaper from Sweden.

Getting your Property Ready for the Summer Rental Season

Now that the holidays are over, if you rent out your property for the season, you need to
get ready for the Realtors and clients to start looking at your homes. February is the time
to have pictures taken and get on the rental lists for the summer season.

There are a few things that you should do to get prepared.
1. Make sure that any repairs that need to be done are addressed. The leaking toilet
will only create more problems down the road.
2. Make sure that the home is clean. Inspect ceiling fans, wash the windows to let in
the light and check the out door gutters to make sure they are leaf free.
3. Depersonalize the space. Clients want to use this space as their own, not live in
your space.
4. Update the home with fresh paint, rugs, and inspect your furniture to make sure it
is in good and clean condition.
5. Make your home safe. Limit extension cords, have fire extinguishers available,
make sure that window treatments are secure, and make sure that heavy objects
such as televisions and tall bureaus are child safe.
6. Spruce up the outside of your home. Make sure that you do a check of your
outdoor furniture to see if it is in need of repair and ready for the season.

Hildreths Department Store is here to help you address all your needs. From linens,
furniture, lamps and accessories to outdoor furniture, we can create a beautiful space for
your summer clients.

Decorating with wreaths can be fun and whimsical. Wreaths come in all shapes and sizes
so why not have fun! Using unusual materials will make an unforgettable statement that
will leave your guest in awe. Here are some fun and whimsical wreaths in the shape of
a peace sign covered with evergreens and berries or driftwood, starfish and seashells or
large round wreath covered in seashells and feathers which can be found at Hildreths.
What a great gift idea this is too!

With the holidays comes the guests……..

Keep a “guest basket” handy in the guest room closet ready to be put out for those
expected or unexpected guests. Roll up the guest bath towels and put them into a basket
along with travel size soaps, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, and maybe
even a pair of holiday socks. Top it off with a few current magazines and the “guest
basket” will be ready when you are or even when you’re not.

Many customers love the clean, cheerful and inviting look of white sofas, love seats, chairs and curtains.  Many say, “I could NEVER have a white sofa in my house!  It would get dirty immediately.”
Nowadays, with modern technology greatly affecting the furniture industry, you certainly CAN have white furniture.  Pictured is a WASHABLE slipcover in off-white fabric.
If  dirt or stains occur, you can have it cleaned or clean it yourself in the washing machine.
There are also many Sunbrella fabrics that won’t fade and can literally be cleaned with any cleaner and not damage the fabric.  Your whites and colors will stay the bright, vibrant original color.
So, let the dogs, cats and kids jump with their dirty feet & paws.
Easily cleanable and you can order extra slipcovers, too.

A great way to beat the Winter doldrums is with tropical-isle décor.
This can be done easily with very dark wood, rattan and seagrass
frames and white, off-white, linen and beige fabrics and accessories—
i.e. mirrors, plants and flowers and carpeting.  The mixture of very dark
with very light will keep it from looking like a sunroom and is appropriate
Put on a tropical CD and transport yourself to a warm beach.
Come in to Hildreths and let us show you how!

Properly Installed

"Do-it-yourself" is not a good idea when it comes to the installation of your window treatments.
Having a professional installer can mean not putting unnecessary holes in your walls and molding or trim.
Knowing exactly where to put the brackets, how much to deduct for the rod and rings can be tricky.
Also knowing the right size hardware for the weight of the treatments your putting up is as important as the need to use mollies or not. Stack is another consideration , whether you are mounting something horizontally or vertically - how much of the glass is exposed can also be controlled. So whenever possible leave it to the professionals here at Hildreths.

Out with the Tangerine, in with the Emerald Green

The Pantone Institute announced this week that the 2013 Color of The Year
is Emerald Green. Tangerine Tango was a huge color for 2012 and it is said it
provided the energy boost that we needed to move forward. Emerald green,
a bold vivid color continues to enhance our sense of well-being and promotes
balance and harmony. Green is the color of growth and prosperity, healing and
This color will be prevalent in fashion and as color splashes for our homes this
year. This color can rejuvenate an entryway, dining room or bring life to a living
room. At Hildreth ’s, we are fashion forward and happy to help you create your
beautiful space with the 2013 Color of The Year- Emerald Green!

Certainly that’s what our parents, grandparents and teachers told us as children.  As the holiday season is rapidly approaching and we frantically run around trying to get all the people on our shopping lists gifts, it often becomes overwhelming and exhausting.   There is just so much to do in so little time.  Sometimes the answer is just to stop running around and take some time to think.  The sister who loves travel might just love a beautiful zippered bag with trial-size bath products.   The person you know who loves to paint or knit or cook would love supplies from the art store, a few skeins of a beautiful wool or a selection of new needles for the knitter and a beautiful serving piece for the cook will be so very appreciated.  Of all the presents I bought my mother, the happiest I ever saw her was when I bought a cookie jar and filled it with her favorite dark chocolate-covered graham crackers.

At Hildreth’s we are here to help you find the perfect something for the people in your life and make the holidays and the giving fun.

and function. Baskets are made from a wide variety of fibrous, pliable materials such

Decorate your baskets with dried flowers, greenery, change them for each season. Stop
in and create your own gift baskets, fill them with toiletries, towels, perhaps scented
candles, or have our talented staff create gift baskets for you.

The Right Hardware For Your Window Treatments

When dressing your windows often times alot of focus is spent on which fabric to use and what style a drape should be. The importance of hardware is sometimes overlooked. The overall look of a room can be dramatically improved when attention is payed to choosing the right hardware. The selection on the market today is fairly extensive and sometimes overwhelming. Things you need to consider are material, size, finish, type of finial, style of brackets, rings or carriers, traverse or baton drawn, etc. If this a design area you are not comfortable handling on you own - you may want to come to Hildreth's and have one of the designers help out.

Decorate with rugs

Area rugs can help define/separate a space. When decorating or redecorating a room,
there’s the endless question of whether you buy the rug first or the furniture. Keep your
eyes open to new ideas and should a particular rug pop out, you can always decorate
around that. If you’ve already selected your furnishings and fabrics, there’s a rug out
there that can certainly marry it all together.  Envision your room, come up with ideas by

patterns, even indoor/outdoor rugs. Stop in and we’ll find what’s right for you.

If you are looking for a room to function properly, you need to have proper lighting. Lighting sets the mood for the room and can enhance a cramped space.
Look at the natural lighting for the room in both day and nighttime. Then you can decide if you need direct or indirect lighting. Direct lighting is best when you need to concentrate on a task and need bright lighting. Indirect lighting is more to create ambiance in your room. Candles, sconces, small lamps and up lighting creates a mood.
Hildreth's has a large lamp department to help with either direct or indirect lighting. Please stop by today and visit. We'd be happy to help!
